While completing my MFA, I examined consumer behavior as it relates to various food-focused periodicals. This study considered key demographic and sociocultural variables, including social class, population characteristics, age cohorts, and consumer typologies. The analysis centered on four prominent magazines—Cook’s Illustrated, Rachael Ray, Allrecipes, and Food & Wine. Within this comparative framework, I evaluated distinctions in advertising strategies, visual imagery, and editorial content, with particular attention to how these elements shape reader engagement and inform consumer preferences.
